That’s a murti in Maida’s kitchen. I’ve mentioned that her aunt is Hindu, haven’t I? Anyways from what I’ve read it looks like keeping it in the kitchen is the thing she would do. There’s no dedicated shrine space in a flat so small and it would be inappropriate for her to keep it in her bedroom.

It was important to me that this flat feel quite cramped. But at the same time, it’s not like Maida and her aunt can have accumulated very many possessions in the few months they’ve been on Earth. I hope I’ve found a good balance here. I’ve lived in smaller spaces than this one at times during my life. But this size feels about right for their current circumstances.

Panel 1: Ujana: "Maida, you know Friday is my only day off, and you're at school for half of that."
Panel 2: Maida: "Auntie-ji! I only get Saturday off, and half of Friday and half of Sunday. And this week I don't get a proper Saturday."
Panel 3: Maida: "I finally have friends! This is important!"
Panel 4: The kitchen is small and crowded. The whole flat is. Ujana has a small murti shrine in her kitchen. Ujana: "Sigh. Okay, well, don't forget we have to get up early tomorrow so you can come with me to the Morales'." Maida: "I know."
Panel 5: Maida, as she puts her shoes back on by the door: "Laters!"
Panel 6: Maida walks along the balcony outside their flat, headed downstairs.
