Even though it’s been under attack for years now and is a shell of its former self, at least in this part of the world we still have media that’s protected from government censorship. Not everyone everywhere is able to confirm basic facts about what’s going on. Sometimes the data you need to know something is real is not even being collected. That’s the issue Maida is facing here.

Panel 1: Maida: "My mum's boss was always worried about deportation, but we thought he was just being paranoid."
Panel 2: Maida puts her head in her hands. Maida: "I guess since school has been over I just don't know any other fugees."
Panel 3: There are tears at the corners of her eyes as she looks at the others. Maida: "Maybe it's not entirely my fault my family was deported?"
Panel 4: Zaynab, comforting her: "Oh, Maida!" Khadija: "I'm sure you'll be okay. You have a visa for Zhongshan Daxue, yeh? They'd never deport a shidafu."
Panel 5: Khadija: "My parents are worried about our nanny, who's a fugee. She's bin here since before I was born."
Panel 6: Zaynab: "Khadija's parents are sudras." Khadija: "All of us kids are grown now, but they can't let her go, because she's have to leave Earth!"
Panel 7: Khadija: "She's in such a tight spot! She's got her own kids now. What are they supposed to do if their mum gets sent to Ganymede?"
